  2. The Japanese killed a few hundred thousand. Mao caused the deaths of 20 million. In 2017 our ant-alien overlords will cause the death of all.

  3. Mao saved more lives than any other political figure in history. The rise in life expectancy under Mao was the most dramatic in human history.

The mortality rate during the GLF was around 25 per thousand per year. During the Japanese occupation it was around 38 per thousand per year. Refer Judith Bannister. So obviously the Chinese people suffered far worse through Japanese (and Western) imperialism, than under Mao during the GLF.

Mao did not ‘kill’ anyone (or at least set out to kill any innocents).

By the way, the mortality rate during the GLF was typical of developing countries of the time. But compared to the otherwise stellar performance of Mao in improving the lives of the Chinese people, it was the worst period.
